From Idea to Impact: Navigating the Creative Process

Creativity… God given talent… coming up with brilliant ideas… inspirational thought leaders… joy of free and unrestrained play? The science of creativity shows that these ideas about creativity are likely to discourage rather than stimulate our own creativity.

In this webinar, Dr. Zorana Ivcevic Pringle examines the process of making choices along the road to creativity by answering three groups of questions: (1) Why do we sometimes have ideas, but fail to act on them and live up to their potential?; (2) What is the know how that helps us make progress and persist through the creative process?; and (3) What makes the difference between being a one hit wonder and being consistently creative?

As with the decision-making process, the creative process is also influenced by our emotions. The challenge is to learn how to harness their power and manage them when they become overwhelming. Coaching has much in common with the creative process. In both we aim to grow, develop and build. Coaches can find much inspiration in learning about the nature of the creative process and how we can best manage it.

Key takeaways:

  • Understand the origin, experience, and consequences of psychological risks in the creative process and the dynamic changes in creative self-confidence
  • Appreciate the role of emotions in the creative process; come to understand the ways to harness the power of emotions and be able to analyze the process of emotion regulation
  • Appreciate the social nature of creativity and the role of different kinds of social relationships across the stages of the creative process
