Help Shape the Future of Coaching Research and Support Inclusive Access to Coaching Education

This research, conducted by Yasmina Suleyman, PCC, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Dirk Van Dierendonck, explores coaching as a tool for leadership development. As a Professional Fellow with the IOC and a PhD candidate at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Yasmina draws on over a decade of coaching experience. Her research focuses on how certain coaching approaches shape leadership behaviors and influence coaching dynamics.

A comprehensive model bridging theory and practice was developed during the first phase of the research, using a Grounded Theory methodology. In-depth interviews with executive coaches were conducted to understand how coaching approaches are applied in practice. The model was further refined through expert interviews, data analysis, and focus groups, providing detailed insights into aligning coaching practices with a leadership framework.

The second phase now builds on these qualitative findings with a broad survey of coaches. This phase invites coaches from all backgrounds. The goal is to compare broader coaching approaches, clarifying what is unique and what is shared.

For the coaching profession, this research provides a robust theoretical framework that advances evidence-based coaching for leadership development. It supports coaching's credibility as a discipline and creates a clearer bridge between research, leadership theory, and practice.

Coaches are invited to contribute to this work by participating in a short, 15-minute survey.

Your perspective as a practitioner can directly shape this emerging framework and influence how coaching for leadership development is understood and taught.

The Survey can be accessed here: https://jazzycoach.fra1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eD3YvBiQQk2aeRE

To support accessibility and inclusion in the coaching field, $1 USD will be donated to the ICF Foundation Scholarship Program for every completed survey. This program supports aspiring coaches from underrepresented populations in accessing coaching education and training.

Participation in the survey is voluntary, anonymous, and confidential, with all data processed according to ethical and data protection standards and used solely for research purposes. Questions can be directed to [email protected]

This initiative is an important opportunity to support research that highlights the complexities and impact of coaching. By participating and encouraging colleagues to do so, valuable contributions are made to the growing evidence base needed to advance the coaching profession with integrity and credibility.
